4 ft palm tree stump

The roots are so big and deep we decided maybe we should just keep the 5 ft stump but how do I incorporate it into my landscape?

4 Foot Palm Tree Stump
by: Kimberly

Hi Tina, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your four foot palm tree stump. This is a very interesting and good question.

Palm wood is very slow to rot. Here are a few options you can do.

1. Saw down the stump close to the ground. Leave enough room to put a container plant or outdoor feature on the stomp. Create a small perennial or annual flower garden around the stump. It doesn't have to be large. Prepare your soil around the stump and add some organic mushroom compost soil. Flowers don't have deep root systems. I have done this with some of my previous clients.

2. Leave the stump at five feet and go ahead a create a garden around the stomp. You can put in flowers or even dwarf shrubs. You live in Florida, which means you have a wide variety of dwarf shrubs that would work for you. You can incorporate some outdoor features such as a bird bath and bird feeder as an option.

3. The third suggestion I have done with my crew. We have used my pick up and put a chain around the stump. We pulled out the stump and dug the roots out. This can be a tough project, that if you really didn't want the stump, would work. A local landscaper may be able to do this for you, if you don't have the equipment.

Personally, I like the ideas of using the stump in your landscape. It becomes a natural look with your environment. Decide if you want to keep the stump at the five feet, or bring it down. If you leave the stump at five feet, it may actually become the focal point of that area. If you want your flowers and shrubs to be focal point of the area, cut back the stump to the desired height.

I hope this has helped and if you have anymore questions, feel free to respond. Thanks again Tina for asking the question and feel free to ask anytime. Best of luck to you. I do think you could have a nice landscaped area with your stump.
Kimberly
