The Caribbean - Introduction To Some Sites And Terms
The Caribbean is home to many beautiful islands. It also brings to you a variety of cultures as well as spectacular landscape. The Tropics is a section devoted to warm climate plant specimens as well as giving you information about different islands and their heritage. Lets take a walk on a pathway that will lead us to a some basic facts and sites on a couple of these islands.  | | Take A Walk |

This variegated grass is native and common in many of the Caribbean Islands. In the United States and other places, it doesn't nearly grow as large. In the
gallery of plant section there are pictures of some ornamental grasses that do grow in the Caribbean.

These two photos were taken in the Riviera Maya. This is in Mexico in the Playa del Carmen area. The natural beauty of the Caribbean waters and the soft sand creates wonderful viewing in the morning and evening. The native language for many of these islands is Spanish. If you are traveling to a Spanish speaking country and staying at a hotel or resort, many of the employees speak English as well as some other languages. I wanted to give you some basic Spanish words that may come in useful if visiting any of these islands. Here are some greetings done everyday. - Hello - Hola

One of the greatest attributes about any of these islands is the serene weather allows you to travel any time of the year. Yes, there are hurricanes that pass over some of these islands, and the native people take precaution in protecting their land as well as their people and tourists. Here is a little information for you on an area in the eastern Caribbean. Antigua and Barbuda are located about 250 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. They are situated between the Greater and Lesser Antilles. Antigua is the largest and is about 110 miles. Barbuda is smaller at about 63 miles. Each of these islands represent a wonderful unique culture. The main language is English and the capitals are St. John, which is located in the northern side of Antigua. I have not visited these islands but through research I hope to experience them in the future. I am looking forward to seeing their different plant specimens as well as the beauty and culture of the two islands. Barbuda and Antigua give you the option of a wonderful maritime setting and also some higher terrain of about 1300 feet. Their culture has a large population of African descent.
