The Caribbean is home to many beautiful islands.
It also brings to you a variety of cultures as well
as spectacular landscape. The Tropics is a section
devoted to warm climate plant specimens as well as
giving you information about different islands and
their heritage. Lets take a walk on a pathway that
will lead us to a some basic facts and sites on
a couple of these islands. | ||||
Antigua and Barbuda are located about 250 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. They are situated between the Greater and Lesser Antilles. Antigua is the largest and is about 110 miles. Barbuda is smaller at about 63 miles. Each of these islands represent a wonderful unique culture. The main language is English and the capitals are St. John, which is located in the northern side of Antigua. I have not visited these islands but through research I hope to experience them in the future. I am looking forward to seeing their different plant specimens as well as the beauty and culture of the two islands. Barbuda and Antigua give you the option of a wonderful maritime setting and also some higher terrain of about 1300 feet. Their culture has a large population of African descent. There are also smaller numbers of British, Portuguese, Chinese and Lebanese. Below is a list of their Holidays for 2008.
- 1 Jan New Year’s Day
- 21 Mar Good Friday
- 24 Mar Easter Monday

- 12 May Whit Monday
