This shrub family does exceptionally well in Chile and Bolivia. Ugni average around ten feet tall, and are highlighted by their edible and splendid fruit.

This specie needs well drained and sandy soil conditions. Ugni can take full sun but also partial shade. These shrubs produce colourful pink tone flowers and the wonderful berries are red and purple. This specie's fruit has a tart taste, but used often in making jams and jelly. Ugni is a great landscape shrub, and a nice back drop.

Ulex is native to western Europe, and North Africa. It will also do well in zones six through nine in the United States.
