A Deciduous Or An Evergreen Tree Makes A Wonderful School Or Home Activity
A deciduous or evergreen tree can be planted inside a classroom or home. The trees can also have a very special place in the landscape of a school or in a distinctive spot in a home garden. There are so many different ways to incorporate planting a tree in lesson plans as well as teaching your children about tree specimens. It doesn't matter what age group you are working with. The younger children can focus in the basic learning about nature and their environment. The older child or student can go into more depth on the structure and process. The germination, propagation, graphing as well as the anatomy of the roots, trunk, leaves, branches and flowers. If you are a student consider talking with your teacher or professor about planting a tree. Teachers and parents can use this project in giving students and children an activity that sees the growing cycles of a living plant specimen. One of the main goals in doing this project is to be able to take your age group and give them the hands on opportunity to learn about a plant specimen through their senses. Trees are one of the biggest plant families around the globe. The desert is an area which can be scare of trees, but if you live in this region, planting a tree in a large container inside will serve the purpose of this activity. The first step in starting this project is to
properly plan the entire process when planting a deciduous or evergreen tree.
The plan - prep - and plant method is a great way to teach anyone the correct way to do an outdoor landscape project. Here are some questions for you to think about.- Do you want to plant a deciduous or evergreen tree or one of each?
- What is your main objective of your age group?
- Are there different options to what you can plant or where you can plant the tree in your location?
- If you plant a tree, who will take the responsibility of caring and maintaining the tree? Can a schedule be worked out for times you are not around?
- Can others around you participate in this project? Make it a total family project or entire school activity.
I have worked with pre-school, school age, college and crews in landscaping. One of the greatest feedbacks I have received is the fact that all ages love the hands on learning technique. To be able to get involved from the start of the project and then to see the finished product creates the learning experience in itself. Decide what type of tree you would like to focus on. If you do a deciduous tree, do you want an ornamental, fruit or the highlight being color and texture? If you do a deciduous tree and live in a climate that has changes in the seasons, the whole process of budding in spring time through the dropping of leaves in the fall can be addressed. Living in a sub -tropical or tropical climate, you may want to consider a tree that has some special features in your area. The Palm family has many different varieties and try and pick a unique specimen that everyone can learn about. The evergreen tree will give the appearance of color year around. Find an evergreen that is easy to grow either indoors or outdoors. If you are unfamiliar with the process of how to plant a tree or plant around a tree, read through the
simple solutions
section and learn the basic steps as well as possible new trees going in shock.Once you have decided on the tree specimen, find out if it is feasible planting in a container indoors or somewhere on the outside property. If you are doing a school or college project, have the students help with the research. Also, give them the opportunity to research different plant specimens that would work in your geographic area.
