Eucalyptus Tree, Fragrant Leaves You Can Dry And Use For Mulch
The Eucalyptus tree has fragrant leaves. Drying the leaves provide great mulch. This tree is well known in Central America. The trees were planted on purpose in places such as Guatemala. The reason was to try and eliminate malaria based swamps. The trees mass root system serves as a solution to drainage problems. Of course we know one of the major hubs for this big tree is in Australia. The Koala bears love sitting and hanging out on the branches. These trees can reach up to 250 feet. There are hundreds of different varieties and most of them will with stand temperatures down to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. The trunk of the tree has some blue tones and leaves are round with a teal color. New leaves tend to have a definite blue color and adult leaves turn more into a teal tone. I planted a group of seeds in the greenhouse a few years back. Now there are three full grown Cinerea Eucalyptus trees in our yard. They have grown to heights of fifteen to thirty feet and range from five to eight feet wide. Our winters are mild in the upstate of South Carolina. We occasionally will have an ice storm and the this tree will get damaged. Many of the top branches will topple over. A good idea is to keep the branches trimmed back.

Tying the branches together and hanging them upside down for five to ten days. I use saw horses and old screens. Spread out the branches and let dry for a week. The first week to ten day process will preserve the color tones of the leaves. Continue drying the leaves for another two weeks in order for the leaves to totally dry out and change color. An advantage if you are in a zone that will can grow Eucalyptus, is the leaves will turn brown automatically when changes in seasons occur. Use the dry leaves for mulch in special landscaped areas. Keep the leaves whole as they provide a great natural covering for your plants. Take dried leaves and crush them in small pieces. Put them around in small bowls for a nice smell in different rooms. The oil from the leaves are also good for medicinal remedies. Different tinctures can be made to help with chest colds and respiratory infections. The oil is also used as a rub on a chest to clear up symptoms of asthma and bronchitis.
The Eucalyptus tree is striking in an open garden area or even along the front of your house. Along your house the tree will have to be kept trimmed. A suggestion is to not let the top go over the gutters. There are many different climates in the United States where this tree will survive. Some people in New York State have had success with seeds or plugs. This is a great plant specimen for its beauty, and aroma. Use the branches of leaves in arrangements and dried leaves to mulch your landscape area or different beds. This tree is well worth buying or growing as it provides a lot of resources for you.
