Gerber Daisies Are Considered An Annual And Tender Perennial

The Gerber Daisy has vibrant colored flowers. This Daisy is considered an annual and also a tender perennial. It is native to South Africa, Europe, Asia, and sub-tropical to tropical climates in the United States. This flower specimen is one of my favorites to plant in a variety of garden settings. It is technically considered a good plant for zones nine through eleven in the United States. Zones seven and eight can also keep this plant outside. It will die off in the fall with the first frost, and reappear in the springtime around the middle of April. Colder climates are beginning to use this plant in gardens. It can be planted in the ground during the growing season, and before the first frost, dug up and put in a container for the winter months. This daisy is also will work in planters in spring and summer months. There are also a variety of other flowers available for a planters. Feel free to search in Google or in this website to find the flowers you are looking for.

This daisy family member can be grown from seed, but it may germinate sporadically in a garden. You can also divide the clumps to increase the volume of plants. This daisy loves sandy soil conditions, but will survive in clay base soil. It must have well drained soil as the roots could rot if the soil becomes to soggy. This daisy loves full sun but can take partial shade. I have planted it in both conditions, and it has done well. One of the reasons my clients love intermingling these flowers throughout a landscape, is the variety of colors available. Below are a few different photos of some of the color tones.

The Gerber Daisies will mature anywhere from six inches to one foot tall. They begin to flower in the warmth of springtime, and will repeat bloom until the middle of the fall season. The Gerber Daisy can accent a number of other plants in the tropics. Creating a tropical garden using this daisy, a few small Palms, Ginger and Fatsia, will generate a wonderful blend of colors. This daisy will also compliment other flowers and evergreen shrubs. Ornamental grass species adds a new dimension along with this daisy. There are different possibilities for their use in the section examples of landscape designs. This daisy can be incorporated in any of these simple hand drawn designs. Some Mop Cypress, Loropetalums, Golden Euonymus and Hinoki Cypress, will create a beautiful surrounding for these Daisies. At the bottom of the page, you can look at these shrubs in the gallery of plants section. Also consider planting these beauties around different outdoor features, such as a trellis, around a gazebo, or along a decorative fence or wall.
