creates a special look and smell in any outdoor
garden. |

It is best known as a tropical or sub -tropical plant. This specimen can be considered deciduous or evergreen depending on your location.
In colder zones, the Jasmine can be potted and brought inside or to a greenhouse. The temperature shouldn't get below fifty five degrees.
Let's talk about some of the unique characteristics of this gorgeous plant. The colors can range from the popular yellow, to white, pink and purple.
For us here in the southern part of the United States, it is readily available in yellow and white.
This plant does wonderful growing on a trellis, rock walls, fence or as a trained upright. It can be grown naturally but should be pruned back in the fall. Also, you should dead head the flowers after blooming. Here are a couple of pictures of the yellow variety on a rock wall and fence.

Notice how the plants just easily drape over the rock wall creating a natural look. The color of the fence gives this mass of flowers the focal point in the backdrop of the garden.
A fantastic variety is the Jasmine Confederate -Favorite Intensely Fragrant Easy to Grow Vine Jasmine Starter Plants 6 Pack.
This plant specimen loves full sun but has been known to do well in partial shade. I did an experiment a few years back and planted a Lemon Drop variety underneath a Variegated Privet.
The Lemon Drop is a smaller version and does very well cascading over natural or decorative rocks The plant sprawled out beautifully over the rock but has not produced any blossoms. Below are a couple of different pictures of the Lemon Drop.

The Pink Jasmine is one of the fastest growers and will do well in zones in zones eight through ten. The flowers are actually white but have a pink tone to the blossoms. It will reach up to twenty feet tall and is wonderful climbing up a trellis. A trellis along the front of a brick or stone foundation and the flowers compliment the color tones in the masonry.
The Winter Jasmine is one of the most versatile plants of this specie. It can grow in zones six through ten. The Margarita mixture does well in northern climates. This plant has a mass of yellow blooms in the spring and summer months. It can do well in shaded areas and great for gardens, patios, arbors, and planters.

One of the most interesting accent plant to place in the same garden with a Jasmine is the Golden Euonymus. The Euonymus is an evergreen shrub that will grow four to five feet high and wide. The shiny variegated green and yellow leaves makes this plant striking from a distance. Take a look at the picture below. This Euonymus was trained around a mailbox and has a great curbside look.
The Golden Euonymus grows great in zones four through eleven and does well in most soil conditions. Once established the Euonymus will grow healthy with a regular watering schedule. These two plant specimens create such a nice appearance in any garden setting.
Another option with the golden variety is a large garden bed of several different beds. You can incorporate the Loropetalum and a variegated Cypress.

Take a look at these three plants put together. Talk about vibrant colors and different textures. I have designed these three together for quite a few of my clients. Beautiful contrast of colors. You can stagger them when planting, or do a mass of colors. Great look if you want to spruce up your gardens or landscape.
A Mop or Lemon Thread Cypress will do great. Talk about a colorful lush landscape. Below is a photo of a Loropetalum (Chinese Pizazz) and a Mop Cypress.
The landscape article section has a photo of this gorgeous plant, and one of South Carolina's pride and joy, our State Flower.
This is a very simple solution for a drab area of a property. The Jasmine can give you a wealth of beauty during the spring and summer months.
In Asia, as well as in the southern United States, it can grow wild. Combined with the Golden Euonymus, this plant combo can only turn into only one thing, a big winner for you.
