This is a simple number design with a sub-tropical feel. It is also a basic design that many people use for a single landscape area. The neat aspect of this type of design is you can take it and incorporate trees, shrubs, and flowers that grow well in your geographic location. If you live in a colder climate, now is a great time to plan for a spring landscape project. If you live in a warmer climate, this is an ideal time to get your juices flowing to make a garden you can be proud of. An autumn garden prolongs the beauty of the growing season.
Below is the simple little design with plant specimens that could work in a warm or sub-tropical climate. In the gallery of plants section there are a variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers photos with different climate zones, This section may give you some ideas for your own area.

The plant specimens I put in this design represent a variety of colors and textures. When I think of sub-tropical or tropical, bright and warm colors comes to mind. In most garden settings a solid green is your base color. Using different color tones, makes your garden a sample of your own personality.
Below is the design key with some photos to help you visualize this garden. Besides the gallery of plants section, you can find these and more specimens in the tropics and variety of more plant sections.

- Tea Olive - Osmanthus - great evergreen ornamental tree with white flowers and a rich aroma.
- Fatsia - evergreen sub-tropical and tropical plant. The large leaves makes this shrub a great addition to a garden.
- Camellia - There are many variety of Camellias. The two families are the Sasanqua and the Japonica. This is a picture of the Mine - No - Yuki, white Sasanqua.
- Hibiscus - this is a definite choice for a sub - tropical or tropical garden. There are many different colors and I love the peach tone.
- Bench - your favorite style bench in front of a trellis or arbor is a great way to enjoy the color and aroma in the garden. There are many styles of benches available today.
- Trellis or Arbor - Either one of these two outdoor features will entice you to sit out in your garden. Pick a color for the trellis or arbor that blends well with the rest of the garden.
- Angel Trumpet - This is one of my favorite sub-tropical and climbing tropical plants. The large trumpet shape flowers look great on a trellis or arbor.
- Decorative Rocks - you can use existing rocks or purchase a few rocks. Match the color with tones of your flowers, bench or trellis. Use a series of three or five.
- Festival Grass - is a rich ornamental grass. Putting it behind the rocks makes a great accent in your garden. I like throwing in a purple tone with the yellow and peach tone. Notice the center of the Hibiscus flower and how that purple color blends with the Festival grass.
- Yew - this is a great evergreen shrub that will give you that solid green base color. I love the shape of its needle like leaves.
- Planters - You can put a couple of planters in the bed. The planters can be any color and a bright color container adds some spunk to the landscape area. You can make the planters colorful by adding some annual flowers.
- Jasmine - A set of three Jasmine plants in the center will complete this garden. The massive yellow tones will highlight the different colors throughout the garden.
