Mount Rogers is located in the southwestern
part of the state of Virginia. Virginia is situated
in the southern United States. This National
Recreation Area is home to over 120,000
acres of luscious mountains. There are over
400 hiking trails and truly one of the most
sought out areas. I wanted all of you that
are planning a few landscape projects to take
another break in the scenes of nature through
photography section. We all need to unwind
and relax, and I wanted to share with you some
beautiful scenery of a place where many tourists
visit year around.
The Mt. Rogers recreational area is located about
fifteen miles south of the town of Marion and Damascus.
Both of these southern quaint towns are a resting
place before taking on the moderate hikes, as
well as the brilliant scenery. This is a place for
everyone to enjoy and a wonderful
learning experience
for students, families or other organizations.
The area would make a remarkable field
trip as one not only can bask in nature, but
will experience the home to free roaming ponies.

Mt. Rogers stretches 5,729 feet up and is known for the the tremendous amount of Red Spruce, Fraser Fir, and Pine. The trees blanket the mountain and other surrounding mountains. The trails leading to the summit are very well marked and you can view many different wild flowers and of native shrubs. One of the trails is called Rhododendron Gap, and a popular place to hike in the Mount Roger Reactional Area. Here are a few signs you will encounter on your travels.

There are a lot of panoramic views in many of the different levels of the trails. One of the most unusual events upon reaching the Mt. Rogers summit, is there isn't much of a view. The vast amount of trees and other foliage encompass the summit and surrounding area. The last photo shows a sign that you can photograph to prove you reached the summit. The famous Appalachian Trial runs through this area and actually comes within a half of mile of the summit. There are also various trails for the novice as well as advanced hiker. Another heavy traveled trail is the Virginia Creeper.
There are many trails to choose from
if you are looking for that time of solitude and peace
with nature. There are places along the trails where you
can seek shelter and rest.
I wanted to share with you some photos of this beautiful
area in the southern part of Virginia. Notice the trademark
of haze and fog lurking throughout the mountains in some
of the pictures. This trademark is known throughout the
Appalachian Mountains.

Mt. Rogers and the entire recreational area
has so many different things to offer. There are camping
grounds, picnic tables, trails for hikers, cyclists, and horse
back trails. The state of Virginia is very proud to be able
to host this breathtaking natural environment. I hope you
have enjoyed your time away from your landscape project,
or just taking five minutes to get away. Browse through
the other pages in scenes of nature as you will see
some more beautiful natural landscapes.
