Techniques And Tips For Your Backyard Garden Project

Techniques and tips for your backyard garden project can be beneficial to you. Your backyard is a place where you can create one large defined bed or numerous different size beds. This is a landscape area where the skies the limit! Here are a few examples of typical questions, and also some simple techniques and tips to address these issues.

Row Of Leyland Cypress
Are you thinking about one main large bed around the perimeter of your yard? There are a couple of options for you to ponder.
Consider a fence or a decorative wall bordering your yard. These features will define your bed area and provide privacy.

Many companies provide wonderful selections of wood, vinyl, chain link, or iron materials. Stone, rocks, or bricks also create a striking feature for this type of bed. If you already have one of these features, think about putting some large trees along the fence or wall. Evergreen trees such as Arborvitaes, Cypress, Spruce, Cedars, and Hemlocks, provide wonderful privacy and a nice backdrop. Tea Olives or Osmanthus produce white fragrant flowers.

Many Hollies produce berries in the winter time. If you want to scale down and not invest in a fence or decorative wall, plant the trees along the perimeter of your yard. Of course you can incorporate deciduous trees with the evergreens. Either plant them straight in a row or stagger each tree. Depending on the height and width, plant the trees five to ten feet apart.

New Plants Along Fe
You can create mass planting of a few varieties of shrubs, or plant several different shrubs with unique textures and brilliant colors. Many people like the idea of low maintenance evergreen shrubs. Your whole bed can consist of evergreens or add a few deciduous bushes, such as a Butterfly, Spireas, Forsythias,or some pretty Weiglas. Most of these deciduous shrubs are good in zones four through nine.

Create a few small area of perennial or annual flowers to accent your trees and shrubs. There are hundreds varieties to choose from. Verbena, Phlox, Coreopsis, Daylilies, and Dianthus are some colorful choices. Add a couple of bird feeders or a bird bath. Put a bench, some of your favorite lawn ornaments, or a decorative fountain. (it doesn't have to be a large one)

Defined Bed In Backyard
Do you want a variety of beds throughout your backyard? Create different size beds. A good starting technique and tip is to decide how many beds and how large. This is where the fun begins, because you can create any size. An example is to prep three to five small beds. Spread them out over the entire lawn area.

Maybe a big bed in the center of your yard. Plant some trees and shrubs and wait a couple of weeks and see if you want to plant a few more small beds near the larger bed. Plan on an odd number of beds. Take an example of three beds. Put the beds in a triangle format in your landscape area. Put the largest bed in the middle and two smaller beds on either side of the main bed. You can have them in a straight line but get a little creative and put the two smaller beds in an actual triangle shape. The big bed would be the point of the triangle, the smaller beds being the two parallel points.

Plant different shrubs and in the middle of the main bed, put a colorful ornamental tree such as Redbud, Yoshino Cherry, Lilac, or some type of Berry Tree. Connect the beds with a pathway or decorative paver's. Quick tip for doing this type of landscape, make sure you position the beds properly. You don't want the beds to interfere with mowing your yard.

Some people have created a series of beds and realized, they positioned them too close to each other. They couldn't fit their lawn mower between each bed. Space each bed anywhere from three to ten feet apart. This will depend on two things, your height and width of your plants, and what type of lawn mower you have, a push or riding mower. When planning a variety of beds through out your backyard, think about how you will view them from your house, patio, or deck.
