Plan - Prep - Plant Your Way To Beautiful Gardens And Landscapes

Accent flower gardens look great in any landscape area.
There is nothing like walking into someone's yard and
seeing beautiful landscaped gardens. To go beyond that,
isn't it striking to see one or two just flower gardens? |

Creating your own flower beds can be simple and fun. Planning ahead on what type of plant specimens you want and what will do well in your area is very important.
Many people like to intertwine annuals and perennials throughout all their beds. Think about doing a single flower garden in a dead spot in your yard.
I have talked about many different size and shape gardens in several different articles and features on this Web site. This is just another way you can create your personality on the outside of your property. One idea is to consider doing a small garden of just cut flowers.
Here is a list of twelve popular cut flowers.
- Carnations
- Baby's Breath
- Gerber Daisy
- Iris
- Lily
- Bird of Paradise
- Dianthus
- Rose
- Zinnia
- Cosmos
- Galdiolus
- Sunflower
Create walkways connecting each bed. Make the beds small and do a mass planting of a certain variety in each bed.
The other option is to have three to five different specimens per bed. Plan it in an open area, around your deck, patio, by your front porch, or even along your foundation.
One of my previous clients had the crew remove all her shrubs from her foundation and we planted a combination of annual and perennial flowers all along the front. She wanted a vast amount of color throughout the year.
Here are two wonderful gifts to think about for the beginning or avid gardener.
A neat idea is to take a small basket and wrap each packet of seeds individually.
Wrap the basket up in colorful paper and you have a delightful holiday or seasonal gift for that special someone. Great economic idea! Just CLICK on each photo and get the details.
In warmer climates, Pansies will bloom throughout the winter months. In colder climates, you can still have flowers year around if you do a small container garden inside in a sunny location.
Take a look in the gallery of plants section and see some different annual flowers to accent flower gardens and planters. Feel free also to browse through the page on photos of perennial flowers for any style garden.
Both of these pages will give you some ideas for doing just flower beds. The one thing I do tell my clients is to think in a year term when considering flower gardens.
Do you mind having dead spaces during the colder months? Adding a few evergreen shrubs around your flower beds will give you a base color year around. Below are four different varieties of a wonderful cut and mass planting flower.

These four types of Sunflowers are grown by Katie Brown of Belton, South Carolina. She is a wholesale grower and owns Foothills Floral Farm. She specializes in cut and dried flowers. My favorite is the chocolate Sunflower. Great way to accent flower gardens.

The chocolate and dwarf sunflowers are great for accent flower gardens. By the way, did you know that the state flower for Kansas in the USA is a Wild Native Sunflower? Do you know what your state flower is? Our state flower in South Carolina is the Jasmine.
One recommendation to you is to think about the different seasons and how you could create beds having flowers bloom throughout the entire growing season. Below are a couple more possibilities for you to consider.

The first two pictures are a couple types of Sedum. Sedum creates great fall color for accent flower gardens, and does well in zones three through nine. It can take full sun or part shade. Their cluster of tiny flowers in different color tones makes a great autumn garden.

The second set of pictures shows you a late blooming small Lantana plant, and also a full grown fern. If you have your flower garden or gardens in a shaded area, ferns can create a great accent to the flower garden.
These are just a few simple ideas for making accent flower gardens in your landscape area. Plan your gardens with many different shades or concentrate on a theme base color garden.
