What Will Grow On Banks In Clay Soil?
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on what type of plants will grow on banks in clay soil.

My crew and I have done several slopes and banks in clay soil. One of the most important aspects of landscaping on a slope or bank, is to prepare the soil the best you can. I recommend adding some top soil and also organic mushroom compost to the soil.

You can also purchase Jute, depending how steep your bank is. Jute is a commercial landscape fabric made for slopes and banks. It helps hold in the plants in place.

There are a wide variety of different evergreen shrubs you can plant on banks, as well as pernnial and annual flowers. I will link you to the slope planting with evergreen page here at landscape solutions for you, with some suggestions.

There are many types of dwarf Junipers that will work. Check the varieties out on the Juniper page in the gallery of plants section. Here are a few other suggestions.

1. Mop Cypress
2. Chinese Pizazz
3. Indian Hawthorn
4. Globe Arborvitae
5. Yews

These are only a few. You can also add a series of natural rocks to add some character to the bank. Put the rocks in odd numbers - 1 - 3- or 5.

There are other plants that will work also, if you need more suggestions. Thanks again for asking the question, and the best of luck to you. Have a great day.
Kimberly
