Pear leaders
by: Connie

I've had two pear trees, the first we did not prune back.... grew too tall to manage. (Some varieties will mature at 30 feet - how you going to pick the fruit? and, overripe fruit attracts hornets and really doesn't smell too nice plus the mess when they fall.) Pears have a very verticle growth pattern. New tree is pruned to maintain about 12 feet tall, keeping a flat top. Picking is managable with a step ladder.

Pruning A Leader Off A Cleveland Pear Tree
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you. Thank you for asking the question about pruning the leader off your young Cleveland Pear tree.

Yes, it is alright to prune the one leader of your young tree. You will still get new growth as the tree matures. Make sure you prune the leader at an angle, not straight across. By pruning at an angle you will be allowing the Cleveland to grow healthy for the future. The Cleveland Pear is a beautiful tree. Once established at full maturity, you will have a gorgeous tree to enjoy for years to come.

Thank you again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Feel free anytime to ask a question or help someone else with a landscape or plant question. Have a great day.
