What To Plant Along Your Foundation
by: Kimberly

Hi Cindy, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking your question on what to plant along the front of your house. Also, thanks for sending along a photo. This helps in seeing the front of your house.

From the photo it looks like you have a tree that may give your foundation a little shade during the day. There are a few different ways to plant along the foundation.

On either end of your defined bed you could put a container. Your areas are small and narrow so I would recommend perennial flowers in each containers. The Daphne Odora would look great, as well as a small fruit tree. The Myers Citrus Lemon would be a good choice. The Mandevilla, Begonia, and Philodendron would also work.

Along your foundation consider these.

1. Variegated Croton - smaller variety
2. Coontie
3. Pittosporum
4. Yaupon Holly

All of these are evergreen and are fairly small. A Mop Cypress is another specimen that will work. Consider putting in Coleus and Caladium in front of the evergreen shrubs. You might get a better idea of tropical plants if you visit the tropics section here. There are photos and descriptions that will give you some ideas.

When planning your foundation planting, know the height of each specimen, as you don't want them growing too tall. I hope this helps and let us know what you decide. Thanks again Cindy for asking the question here, and if you have specific questions on certain plants, feel free to contact me. Have a great day. Here is the URL of the tropics section.
