Dying Cedar

As it turns out I believe the tree is a Cypress. I did what you recommended and I see no change. I don't know if it was to late to save or not. How long does it take before I will notice a change? How can I tell if it is dead? There is no more green on the tree.

Dying Cedar
by: Kimberly

Hi Donna, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. I remember you asking the question on your dying Cedar in August. I am sorry to hear that it isn't doing any better.

Are the branches brittle? You said you couldn't find any green on the tree. If you haven't take a small sharp knife and scratch the surface of the trunk and a branch. If there is no green at all, the chances of the tree still being alive is truly in question.

You can also take a branch to a local nursery or garden center. They should be able to identify if the tree is dead. Let us know what you find out.

Our weather here in the southeastern United States has had many different trends this year. We have been dry for a good part of the summer. Cedars, Cypress, and Crytomerias can go in shock with no rain and turn brown throughout their interior.

The best of luck to you Donna with your Cedar, and thanks again for asking your question. Have a great day!
Kimberly
