English Boxwoods brown leaves

English Boxwoods

Recently, my husband was using a paint sprayer and covered up our English Boxwoods with plastic while doing so. It was 90 degrees out and after a few hours I noticed the top leaves had turned brown from the heat. The Boxwoods are 40-45 years old. What can I do to help them? I've never trimmed them before.
I'm attaching a picture. We live in Georgia about 60 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Beth L.

Brown Leaves And English Boxwoods
by: Kimberly

Hi Beth, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on the brown leaves on your Boxwoods. Thank you Morgan also for answering her question. Beth, Morgan is exactly right. Your Boxwood leaves are burned out. I live in the upstate of South Carolina and as you know we have been having some very hot temperatures. Morgan, we are getting into the heat of summer in the States, and South Carolina and Georgia are neighboring states.

Beth, I agree with Morgan. Prune back all the dead leaves. Boxwoods as they age will get leggy, but the best thing to do right now is to prune back all the dead leaves. Make sure you prune each branch at an angle. I would go ahead and give the Boxood some water. You can even add a little fertilizer to the ground.

As Morgan said, you should see new growth in the future. Due to the heat even established trees and shrubs will need a little water.

Thanks again Beth for asking the question, and also for sending us a picture. This helps a lot with understanding your problem. The best of luck to you with your Boxwood, and keep us updated on how the Boxwood is doing after you prune back. Feel free to ask anytime here at landscape solutions for you. Have a great day and stay cool!

The top has been cooked by the heat and I would prune out the dead material and let it re grow
Not sure of you exact season (we in NZ are in the depths of winter)but shouldnt take too long for re growth to start
