I read your answer from years ago about the best grass to plant in upstate SC. Of Zoysia, Bermuda, centipede, St Augustine, and tall Fescue which is the fastest growing? I would prefer cool weather so that it stays green year round. recommendations? thank you. Kacey

Grass In Upstate SC
by: Kimberly

Hi Kacey, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thanks for asking the question on what grass would grow fast.

Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede, and St. Augustine are all warm weather grass. They will turn a brown color in the late fall and throughout the winter months here in upstate South Carolina.

Your best choice is tall Fescue. Fescue is more of a cool weather grass and a fast grower. The tall Fescue will stay green year around. The Fescue will go dormant during the colder months, but stay green in color. You will have to mow it more than the warm weather grass. We personally have tall Fesue and with proper care, you will have a very full lawn.

Thanks again Kacey for asking the question and feel free to ask anytime. Have a great day.
Kimberly
