grass seeding & weed fabric

(Brooklyn, New York)

I am getting ready to put seed (grass) in my yard. It's a small area, but it has tons of weeds. I have dug up as many weeds as possible. I am suppose to put down the weed fabric? How does the see grow through the fabric? HELP.

Grass and Weeds
by: Kimberly

Hi to Brooklyn, New York from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question about your grass and weeds.

One of the first things you want to do is put weed killer down. Unfortunately pulling the weeds doesn't get the root system, and the weeds will come back. Apply the weed killer and let the killer work over five to seven days.

Landscape fabric can be put down. This is an option for you. I recommend to my clients this is up to them. The grass will grow through. I do like the option of once the weeds are dead, rake out and get your ground ready to seed. Spread the seed and get on a watering schedule. You can spread hay over the seeds. This will help retain the moisture. Once the grass begins to grow, you can remove the hay. Make sure you get on a regular watering program along with a weed program.

Weeds will grow in landscapes and lawn. Have a plan is the key to keeping the weeds under control. I hope this helps some and the best of luck to you. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Have a great day and feel free to ask anytime.
