Hardpan over septic tank and deck area

Hi Bob, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking your two questions.

Hardpan is a common problem that many homeowners have. This is an issue that has been trying to resolved for years by professionals. There are a couple of causes behind hardpan. Too much salt or clay in the soil. Also tree roots which get into a drain field. We actually had the problem a few years ago and had to add more drain fields in our front yard, due to all the trees.

I would recommend to have your soil tested first. See if this can determine what is needed in your soil and what is lacking.

Two products that may help are Mega - BIO. This is an industrial stength bacteria formula to help with the drain field.

The other is Septic Seep, which is a soil conditioner.

There are also products out which you can apply directly into your toliet once a month, or once every few months.

As far as dog damage around the deck. You could put a decorative small fence around the deck area. If there is a lot of damage to plants and ground, consider doing a container garden around the deck. This is a good solution for dogs that love to dig in gardens.
