Hibiscius

by Donna Cummings
(Jasper, GA)

I have a Hibicius and I am not sure what kind it is. I live in north GA. It has two different blooms. Do you have any idea? I have had it since last summer and have kept in a pot for fear of it freezing. Do you think it will be safe to plant out door in my area? Also we have had a bad freezing this year.

Hibiscus Planting Outside
by: Kimberly

Hi Donna, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your Hibiscus plant.

There are many possibilities of what your particular Hibiscus name. Ones that come to mind that bloom twice are the Nicole Klahanie, Rosa Sinensis, or the Anderson's double. Many growers are developing double bloom Hibiscus.

You live in Northern Georgia. I love in the upstate of South Carolina and wouldn't recommend
putting your Hibiscus out in the ground.

Hibiscus are considered sub-tropical to tropical plants. Even though your ground doesn't freeze during the colder months, the air temperature will damage the Hibiscus.

Many people in the southeast have container Hibiscus and put them outside in the spring until the fall and the first hard frost. I would recommend this to you.

Hibiscus are vibrant plants but are very frost sensitive. Hope this helps, and thanks again Donna for asking the question. Feel free to ask anytime and have a great day!
Kimberly
