How do I get rid of this!?!

by Resa
(Indiana)

I have this plant that is taking over my yard. When we bought the house it was just beside the garage, it is now taking over! It grows very tall and the stalk is hollow, almost bamboo like, and it green with red streaks. It doesn't flower and grows very tall, over 6 ft. I mow them over when they're young, but they keep coming back. Please help! My e-mail addy is: babydoll4u_47980@yahoo.com Please send help! lol
God bless! Resa

Kimberley your solution makes sense, Do the removal and maybe if any regrowth try Round Up, if necessary.
Less chemical is always good

Unwanted Plant
by: Kimberly

Hi Resa, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your unwanted plant. Thank you Morton also for giving Resa the suggestion for using Glyphosate360g Round Up. This is an effective product and will kill plant and roots. There is a small residue afterward, but won't last that long. Be careful if you use this product around other plants, especially ferns.

This particular plant you have problems with is actually a weed that grows native in my zone seven. It can spread and become a problem. I have taken care of the problem by removing the entire root system of each plant. Typical weeds when you mow, seem to always come back. I have learned that from experience.

You can try removing entire plant by taking the root system out, or go ahead with Morton's suggestion. Let is know what you decide and how you make out.

Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Good luck and have a great day. Thanks again Morton.

Unwanted Plant

I dont know this plant but what I would try is mow it down, allow regrowth and then spray with Glyphosate 360(roundup) with Pulse additive(penetrant), It may take several applications to eradicate it
I am in NZ and an Approved Chemical Applicator, which means I use appropriate chemicals in appropriate circumstances, ie I dont chuck chemicals around and hope it works
