The opposite problem
by: Carol

I have the opposite problem in that my roses have grown wild. I don't believe the previous owners ever pruned them. What is the best time of year to cut them back?

Rose Bush Planted Four Days Ago
by: Kimberly

Hi Iraine, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your recently planted rose bush.

It sounds like your rose bush is going through a transition and could be in some shock. This is common with many different plants. With the rose bush only being in the ground four days, give the plant a chance to get established. Here are some tips to think about.

1. Make sure when you planted the rose bush, it wasn't planted too deep.

2. Proper watering is so important when plant is getting established.

3. Make sure the ground was prepared properly. I recommend adding mushroom compost to your soil. If you haven't done this, you still can.

4. If leaves are falling off, this is a sign of shock. You can check your rose bush by scratching the service of a branch. If it is green it should be alright. If the branch is brown, it could be in shock.

5. Keep an eye on the rose bush and also touch base with where you purchased the bush. There is always a chance you may have gotten an unhealthy plant. Check for warranty on the shrub.

For now, I would let the rose bush go for a week or so and see what it does. Many times a plant specimen will go through a period of shock getting into a new enviroment.

Please keep us updated on the rose bush and how it does. The best of luck. Thanks again Araine for asking the question. If you need more advice, please let us know. I have dealt with many shocked plants going into the ground, so will be watching for your updates to see how you make out. Have a great day.
Kimberly
