Hi Gerri, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you. Thank you for asking the question on when and how to prune your Indian Hawthorn. This is a very good question. Now is a wonderful time to prune back the Hawthorn. Even though the Indian Hawthorn is an evergreen, it will still slow down its growth during the cooler months. I recommend to keep the shrub in its natural form when you prune. Always cut at an angle and never cut a branch straight across. Start from the bottom and work your way up. I also recommend pruners and a pair of scissors. I prune around the bottom and work my way up with the pruners. I will finish the shrub of with scissors to create a balanced look. A good watering should be done after the shrub is pruned. By pruning now you will have great new growth for spring time blooming. Good luck to you with pruning your Indian Hawthorn.
