landscaping around underground wires

There are several utility underground wires in my backyard. How do I plan flower beds and avoid the wires when the wires run all over.

Landscaping Around Underground Wires
by: Kimberly

Hi Janet, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on putting in flower beds with underground wires all over. This is a very good question.

You have two options that I have done with previous clients.

The first option is to make raised flower beds. I am not sure how big your area is, but I would recommend if possible to add four to six inches of good quality top soil. If available, a combination of black dirt, saw dust, and sand works really well. You can plant flowers in raised beds and not have to worry about hitting the wires.

You can also consider a container garden. Container gardens are becoming very popular today. You could put some containers around in a design and add a few outdoor features, such as bird feeders, baths, small statues, a fountain, or some figurines. This would be a good solution
so you won't get into the wires.

I hope this helps and let us know what you decide. Thanks again Janet for asking the question and feel free to ask anytime. Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Kimberly
