Large looking beetles on cleveland pear trees

I just planted two Cleveland pear trees a couple of weeks ago. I found several beetle looking like bugs on the leaves today. Should I be concerned, and is there something I can spray on the trees that would be pet friendly?

Beetles On Your Cleveland Pear Trees
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on possible beetles on your Cleveland Pear trees.

The culprit most likely is the Japanese Beetles. The Japanese beetle is in full force in May and June in many geographic locations.

I recommend first an insecticidal soap. There are also many products out today that are safe insecticides. The laws are strict today on safe products around edible plants and animals.

I have used Talstar (Befenthrin) before. Your goal is to apply the insecticide to both trees. Another goal is if you see the beetles clump together, this could be feeding time. It is hard to tell which beetles are the adults - male and female. You may have to do a couple of applications to have the beetles stop feasting on the leaves.

I also recommed that you think about a pest management program for all your shrubs and trees. This can be done by you. It is important to get on a program once your beetle situation is resolved. This will save you time and money down the road.

I hope this has helped and if you need more help with this beetle problem, or any other problem, feel free to ask right here at landscape solutions for you. Good luck to you and let us know how you make out, and what you used to get rid of your bettle problem. Other visitors may be very interested. Thanks again.
