Leveling process

Well your solution makes sense, although the dirt is not easily broken up, it's pretty much clay what i'm dealing with. ty

Sloped backyard
by: Kimberly

Hi, this is Kimberly from landscape-solutions-for-you. This is a possible project that can be done if the incline isn't too steep. You can use a tiller, or rent one. My crew and I have done this often in leveling a landscape area.

You will till your slope a few times over and actually be moving the dirt with your tiller. The key is to move the dirt towards your foundation. You want the level of dirt higher near the foundation, so the water flows away from the house. You want an area for your child to play, this area will be leveled enough to put a swing set or whatever play equipment. At your low point depending on how the water flows, you may want to considered putting a french drain in, or dig a trench and put in some solid corrugated piping, to divert the water correctly. If you cannot get enough dirt off the slope to raise the level near your foundation, another option is to bring in some top soil.

I am not sure how big of an area you are talking about. If the sloped area is too big, you also have the option of terracing your slope. This is actually developing different layers to your backyard. You can do this with a variety of different materials. Each layer will have to be measured with a level. You can border each terraced layer to dress it up. You could do a few layers of terraces, and have your swing set at the most level part.

If you need further help with this landscape project, go ahead and send me your questions through the commit form. If anyone else has other suggestions, please feel free to share them with us.
