Mealybugs And Sunlight For Basil
by: Kimberly

Hi Sheba, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the questions on mealybugs and your Basil plants.

Mealybugs can be difficult to get rid of on plants both inside and out. I have also had this problem on some of my indoor plants.

I recommend a couple of different things. You can use a systemic insecticide. This is safe for indoor plants. You can spray the insecticide directly on the leaves. Repeat every few days until the mealybugs disappear.

Another option is to take a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and dab on leaves. Don't soak the leaves with the alcohol. You can repeat this every few days also. Your goal is to kill the mealybugs, and you don't want them to spread to other plants. Once the mealybugs are gone, I recommend to wash the leaves in a little soap and warm water once a week.

Basil can take full sun, but in hot summer climates I would put Basil out in the sun in the morning hours, and also around dust. Avoid afternoon sun, and keep plant watered, especially if the plant or plants are in containers.

Thanks again Sheba for asking the question and feel free to ask anytime. Have a great day and let us know how you make out with the mealbugs.
Kimberly
