Mole holes

by Virginia
(Montville, CT)

What can we do to a yard filled with mole tunnels and holes?
We just bought the house. Unfortunately didn't know what the soft patches of ground were until after buying. After the long winter with all the snow thawed, I found multiple mazes of mole tunnels and holes around my house. We are putting in solar powered contraptions that make noise that is supposed to get rid of them but how do I get the lawn ready so that I can seed grass?

Mole Holes

Hi Virginia, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your mole holes. This can be a common problem in many geographic locations.

Your solution to getting rid of the moles is a good one. I am not sure if you have an existing lawn, which it sounds like. To prepare for planting grass, you will want to cover the holes once the moles are gone. There will be some settling once the holes are filled in.

I recommend spraying for weeds. Once you have sprayed, wait five to seven days before planting grass seed. You will want to rake out lawn with excess dead weeds. Plant seeds and put straw over planted area. Make sure you are on a good watering schedule to get the roots established.

I will link you to a page here at landscape solutions for you on steps of planting grass seeds. This will help you with doing the process. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks again Virginiai for asking the question. Best of luck with your mole problem. Have a great day.
Kimberly
