Purple Leaves And Name This Plant
by: Kimberly

Hi Ann, Thanks for sharing some more information on identifying this tree. It very well could be a Purple Plum tree. The Purple Plum has leaves that become totally purple after the new growth has arrived. It is a deciduous tree and great planted around evergreens. I don't think it is any kind of Japanese Maple, but very well may be the Purple Plu. Let us know if this is a possibility.

Thanks again Ann for responding and have a great day. Look forward to finding out for sure what this tree is.

It supposely is a tree in the spring the outer leaves are a burgundy color and the inside is a pink color. Now the plant is all burgundy. It has the 2 colors only in the early spring. There isn't any flowers on it that I seen.

Name Of Plant With Burgundy Leaves
by: Kimberly

Hi Ann, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on identifying the plant.

A few ideas come to mind. The tree or shrub you are talking about could be a Loropetalum. There are many different family members that come in a variety of sizes. Loropetalums are evergreens with purple tone leaves.

It could also be a deciduuous Barberry shrub. Certain varieties will have the purple to pink tone leaves.

Do you know if this tree or shrub is evergreen or deciduous, and if it flowers? If you have a picture to send, that would be great in pin pointing the exact identity.

Thanks again for asking the question here. I will link you to the site map page as this has everything on the website. There is a page on the Loropetalum and also Barberry with photos, that may help you out. Have a great day.
