HI E.J., Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for responding and letting us know what you have decided. It sounds like you are in good hands with your landscaper. That is a great suggestion with creating a ditch to move the water away from the house. Also I agree, if the ground is prepared properly, seeded, and watered, you should have a plush and full lawn next year. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Feel free to ask anytime. Have a great day.

TopSoil by: EJ
Since my initial post, I gave up on the DIY approach and had a landscaper take a look at the yard. Rather than put down a thick layer of new topsoil, we are now considering digging a ditch to carry water out of the area. He thinks we can contour the walls so that it unobtrusively blends in with rest of the yard.
If I go that route, and I probably will, I won't attempt to save/reuse the existing grass. He thought seed would be fine if we did the work soon.
Thanks for your help!

Top Soil and Sod by: Kimberly
Hi E.J. Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your low spot, top soil, and sod. I have a couple of questions for you. What type of sod do you have already, and how long has it been in the ground? Both of these factors will determine what course you should take. If the sod is fairly new and not fully established, you can use a sod cutter and remove the sod and reinstall it. This will help your budget as far as purchasing new sod. If the sod has been down for quite awhile, it make be hard to remove and put back down.
You are doing the top soil correct by making sure it is pitched away from the house. Let me and other visitors know what type of sod you have and how long it has been down. We can go from there.
I wouldn't want to recommend something to you unless I know your total situation. Does your ground freeze in your area? Thanks and thank you for asking your question here at landscape solutions for you. I look forward to hearing from you with more details. I hope you have had a great weekend.
