Overgrown Ruby loropetalums

I have several Ruby Loropetalums which are overgrown in my backyard. I would like to trim them back enough to make them smaller and more compact - is this possible since they are so large now? If so, how is the best way to do this?

Overgrown Ruby Loropetalums

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your overgrown Loropetalums.

Yes you can prune the Ruby shrubs. I recommend pruning them in fall, but you can go ahead now and prune them back. By pruning them at this time a year, you may get delayed springtime blooms, but blooming should take place in the summer.

I have a couple of pages I will give you the links to on this site. The main goal when pruning is to cut at an angle so you don't damage the shrubs. Here are the links below. One is on the Loropetalulm, and walks you through the steps of pruning them. The other is a page on properly pruning shrubs. These pages should help you. If you need further help, feel free to ask anytime.

Thanks again for asking the question. Best of luck on pruning the Loropetalums. Have a great day.
Kimberly
