Telstra Pit

Hi Komberly,

Yes the backyard is mine. I have contacted Telstra on several occasions. I have had a perosn from Telstra come out twice - not much help - ask a plumbler. I believe it is theirs and they should solve it. Anyway the pit the normal one you see on footpaths - the manhole is about 18 inches long and about 8 inches wide. The depth is about a metre. It is situated close to the corner of the two adjoining properties. The pit has cement around it. The bottom did have some cement and two holes in it but that has gone and is now clay.

I am seeking to go through my body corporate for a plumber to come out and see if there is any pipes that have a leak and the water is running through the ground towards the pit.

If there are no pipes - Iw ould like to plug up the pipe with the cabling and lay some cement on the bottom of it but I have to wait for Telstra approval. Oh the joys of working with Telstra and Strata Managers.

A few Questions For You

Hi Owen, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you. I have a few questions for you. I am unfamiliar with the set up of the telestra pits. Do you own your own place, or is there a landlord or other owner involved? If you don't own your property I would talk to the person that does and see if they can help with the water situation.

If this is your own property, could you explain to us how big these pits are, and is the water coming from run off or natural water from rain? Water just sits in clay and your goal is to get the water flowing out of the pit. Is the pit made from the ground soil or some other material? If the pit is made from ground soil, you can divert the water out of the pit by using solid corrugated pipes, and by digging a small trench to move the water out and away from the pit. I look forward to hearing from you with more details, so myself or others may help you solve this problem.
