Schefflera arboricola (but I can promise you that your local nursery owner will know what you are talking about if you ask for an umbrella plant)
Here’s a couple of the varieties:
* Arboricola - regular green variety
* Renate Green variety that has more ripple to the leaves
* ‘Gold Capella’ variegated yellow or gold and green leaves
* ‘Trinette’ variegated cream and green leaves
* ‘Dazzle’ variegated some leaves almost completely creamy white
What I really enjoy about the umbrella plant is that you can shape in into basically any shape. I once saw it shaped into a lollipop!

Thank you for identifying the plant for me. Do you possibly know what the botanical name for the umbrella plant is. A lot of people that visit me want to know so that they can ask the nurseries to order it for them. Thanks again for your help

Umbrella Plant by: Kimberly
Thank you Andriette for identifying Etienne's plant in the photo. When I first looked at the picture I thought it might be an Umbrella Plant. I wasn't sure because of the leaves, but I am very happy you were able to identify the Umbrella, as well as give details on the plant. Thank you again and I am sure Etienne will appreciate the answer also. Feel free to help out anytime here at landscape solutions for you.

The common name for your plant is the umbrella plant. It is a real gem. It grows in basically any situation: from deep shade to full sun, from dry conditions to relatively wet areas. It grows at a great rate but can be cut back and shaped into basically anything.
This is a real treasure!

Identifying Plant by: Kimberly
Hi Etienne, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on the identification of your plant.
From looking at the picture, I am not sure what type of plant you have. The growth over the last ten years and the description makes me think of a sub-tropical plant in nature. Is there any way you could send all of us a close up photo? This would help myself and others look at the plant closer. At first I thought it might be a form of Ginger, but the trunk doesn't match a Ginger. Thanks so much as I am I am sure others would love to help you out.
Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Look forward to hearing from you again.
