Plan - Prep - Plant Your Way To Beautiful Gardens And Landscapes

I recently had a house started behind me blocking a great transition from garden and lawn to woods. I need to grow some climbers in front of a 6 foot cedar fence. Varied sun along 60 foot length from noon on. The backyard is narrow so I want to limit to things that grow straight up with minimal intrusion into backyard. I have ordered some climbing roses that do very well in other areas of yard.

Also looking for ideas for decorative top to fence for 24 feet that will block view into house but not ugly and obvious

Hi Bob, Kimberly here again from landscape solutiosn for you.

Here are a couple of suggestions.

1. Blue Wisteria - evergreen vine that will survive in your climate zone. Wisteria grows natural here in the southern United States and a great choice.

You also have the option of doing some colorful evergreen shrubs. These shrubs will give you privacy but not overtake your yard.

1. Green Thread Cypress
2. Lemon Thread Cypress - variegated yellow and green soft needle-like leaves.
3. Thuja Green - family member of Arborviate. Fast grower and great privacy specimen.

If you plant the evergreens along the front of your fence, this will also provide a natural decorative look to hide from the other house.

Let me know if you need any other suggestions and let us know what you decide. I personally like the idea of evergreens along a fence. Better privacy all around. You could also incorporate the Wisteria throughout the evergreens. Great look and great color.

Thanks Bob for asking the question and hope you are having a wonderful day.

Hi Bob, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thanks for asking the question on needing privacy. I am tied up this morning and will be out, but this afternoon I will give you some suggestions on what to plant along the fence for privacy. These plants will do well in New York. Thanks for your patience and look forward to helping you out.
