Weeping Cherry Trees
by: Kimberly

Hi Bob, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your Weeping Cherry tree.

Leaves turning yellow, brown, and curling are due
to two possible reasons. The first is not enough water, and the second is too much water. If you live in an area of Alabama that has received a lot of rain lately, this could be the cause.

One of the recommendations I give my clients is to test your tree for shock. Take a small knife and scratch the surface of the trunk or branches. If they are green, the tree is still alive. If they are brown, the tree may be in shock, due to under watering or over watering.

How old is the tree? If the tree has been recently planted, it still may be under warranty. Another suggestion is if you are unsure, take a small branch with the leaves on it to a local nursery in your area. They should be able to suggest to you the cause. Fertilizing the ground around the tree may be another option. I recommend organice mushroom compost. This is an organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. It doesn't smell great, but your tree will love it.

Lack of water or too much water over a short period of time are the two major causes of leaves turning yellow, brown, and curling. If you would like, let us know your water situation and also how long the tree has been in the ground. I and others would be happy to help you get to the root of the problem.

Thanks again for asking the question on your Weeping Cherry tree. Feel free to ask a question anytime. Weeping Cherry trees are beautiful trees and I wish you good luck. Have a great day!
Kimberly
