Raised vegetable bed

by John
(Los Gatos, California)

I had a raised vegetable garden built. I am told that the pressure treated creosote wood will pass toxins into any vegetables I grow. Is this true? Do I need to have the planter rebuilt?

Raised Garden Beds
by: Morton

In New Zealand we use Tanilised timber(Pressure treated against rot with between 25 -50 yrs gtee)
18 months ago i built a raised vege garden using tanilised 8 x2 timber with total height 24" and approx 22 ' long and have had two seasons of vege s from it with no ill effects
I am not sure of what chemicals are used in treatment of our landscaping timber but none of us has died, got ill and have had no crazy mutated veges
I have used our tanilised timber for shrub gardens, vege gardens and general landsvcaping for the last 20 yrs and havent noticed any ill effects
