screening

I need a privacy hedge. The problem is large overhead trees make the area shady. What can I use?

Privacy Plants
by: Kimberly

Hi Timothy, Kim here from landscape-solutions-for-you.

Thank you for asking the question on screening in a shade area. Here are a few suggestions that will help with your privacy.

1. Mahonia - zones 6-10 - evergreen that takes shade.
2. Mountain Laurel - zones 4-8 - evergreen
3. Nandina Domestica - zones 6-9 - evergreen
4. Rhododendron - zones 4-8 - partial shade
5. Camellia - zones 7-9 - partial shade and tolerant of some full shade.
6. Acuba - zones 7-10 - evergreen - shade
7. Pieris Japonica - zones 5-8, can take shade and is an evergreen.

These are just a few. Make sure you prepare the ground properly before planting. You can use a variety of different plant specimens, and stagger the plants or plant in a straight row.

I hope this helps some and the best of luck. Let us know how you make out. If you have more quetsions, feel free to ask. Have a great day!
Kimberly
