Transplanting Ginger Plant And Ginger Bulbs
by: Kimberly

Hi Brenda, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your edible Ginger plant and bulbs.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are looking at transplanting your curcuma zedoaria-tropical hidden ginger plants.

Ginger like other plants specimens need to be transplanted with the tap root in tack. With the Ginger plant you will want to keep the rhizome in tack. Loosen the dirt and find the rhizome and lift the plant out of the soil. Keep all the foliage in tack also. Your new hole should already be dug. Add some organic mushroom compost to the hole and carefully place the ginger in the ground. It should be about one inch depth. You can also divide the ginger at this time. Cover hole and make sure you get on a good watering schedule.

If you are planting ginger bulbs, you can get a container or pot that is at least 12 inches wide. Take the rhizome root and place in a light weight potting soil. The soil should contain humus and vermiculite. Cover loosly and put in a warm and sunny location. You can also plant the bulb or bulbs directly into the ground. Add organic mushroom compost to the ground. Keep the soil moist.

Brenda, I hope this has help you some and best of luck with your ginger plants and enjoy them. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Have a great day!
Kimberly
