Hi Vicki, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you.
Thank you for asking the question on your Yucca. Morton gave you a great answer as the Yucca plant is very hard to transplant. My crew and I have done transplants of Yucca's from the ground. The Yucca has invasive root system. I would follow Morton's suggestions and be very careful of the tap or mother root. That is the main root of the plant. Make sure you have the ground prepared and add some compost or organic mushroom compost. The organic mushroom compost is a great natural fertilizer that will last up to one year. Make sure also you get on a good watering schedule so your Yucca doesn't go into shock. You can go ahead and transplant it from your container now as long as it isn't too warm and real dry in your area.
The main thing is to be gentle with the roots, especially when you are removing them from the pot. Also have good soil to put the Yucca in. Hope Morton and my answer helped you, and let us know. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me and myself and others would be happy to help. Have a great day.

Transplanting Yuccas by: Morton
I am in SI New Zealand and have found Yuccas as tough as old boots
Prepare the ground, depending on condition of soil, may need adding compost
Knock the Yucca out of planting box keeping roots and soil together as much as possible and plant immediately, Water in Well and keep moist
Do this probably now but in what is your real winter period
You will know your climatic condition re how much water and when
I work in a production/retail nuresery that grows a lot of open ground grown plants which we are busy lifting and bagging up now(Winter)
If you want to divide them up do it when you have it out of the box , use a sharp spade and split the plant up, the smaller the split the longer they will take to get to a reasonable size
But its a way to get plants for free
