Trumphet vine

by Donna
(Jasper, GA)

I have a Trumphet vine that has finally bloomed only three or four blooms in the same spot after I planted it two years ago. After the first year I pruned it back hard. I realized that the location I put it in is real close to a window a/c unit. It is planted on the south side of the house and gets mostly full sun. I want to move it but since it finally started a bloom, I am afraid that I'll be back to square one with no blooms at all. But I am also afraid that the hummingbirds won't get near it because of the unit. Any suggestions? Going in North GA. Bloomed in mid. August. also groing up the side of my house.

Trumpet Vine
by: Kimberly

Hi Donna, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your trumpet vine.

I would go ahead and transplant your trumpet vine. The rule of thumb is not to plant near foundation or any part of a house. Along a fence or trellis is a good idea. You can wait until September to transplant or now. You will loose the blooms, but once the Trumpet vine is established in new location, you can prune back. Add some mushroom compost to your soil when you transplant it. Mushroom compost is an organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. If you transplant and prune, you should have blooms next season.

I hope this helps and best of luck to you. Thanks again for asking the question, and feel free to ask anytime. Have a great day.
Kimberly
