ugly umbrella clothesline in center of back yard.

I rent, and the umbrella clothes line must stay. However I can do anything else in the back yard. I have painted it a dark green which improved it and have hung bird feeders on it. What else can I do to make it part of the planting plan?

Clothesline In Center Of The Backyard
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you. Thank you for asking the question on the clothes line situation in your backyard.

I understand your frustration and what my first thought is to take away the focal point of the clothesline. You might want to think about incorporating some defined landscape beds. This doesn't have to be a big expense. Plan out one bed around the clothesline, or three small beds. You can do any shape with these beds. If you decide on this, here are some steps.

1. Plan out the beds, you can use a garden hose to play around with how you want the beds.

2. Prep your soil.

3. Check for the amount of sun the area gets, and think about what plants would work well.

If you don't want to invest in defined landscape beds, why not think about doing a container garden? There are many different style containers available, as well as a variety of plant specimens that would look wonderful around the clothesline. You could also create an area with a little pathway.

I like the idea of you trying to get the clotheslilne to blend in with the rest of the area. I also like the idea of bird feeders on the clothesline. Work out your plan from using the bird feeders. If you want to use either defined beds or a container garden, think about a couple of bird baths and other outdoor features. You can define either the beds or container garden with mulch, decorative stones, or border it with plants, or other bordering material.(brick, stones, or edging)

I hope these couple of options will give you ideas to take away the focal point of the clothesline.

Let us know what you decide to do, and if you need anymore suggestions, feel free to ask. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. The best of luck to you with this outdoor problem. Feel free to ask anytime, and have a great day.
