.upside down leaves

by Spencer
(Texas)

I have a new Oleander that I put in the ground about 2 1/2 months ago. The leaves are not scorched but the are doing something I haven't seen before. They grow longer than the other Oleanders I have then they twist upside down. They do not turn brown. The flowers buds look real good but they never bloom its like they get burned.

Upside down leaves on Oleander Plant
by: Kimberly

Hi Spencer, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your Oleander shrub.

I have had a few clients that have had the same problem with upside down leaves. This is caused by the Oleander moth. You need to go to a garden center and find the right product to get rid of the moths. This isn't uncommon in some Oleander species. Explain to them that you have Oleander moths on your plant, and they will recommend a safe product.

The Oleander moth can produce up to three different litters or generations up to a year. Their larva is part of the problem the leaves turn upside down. If you take care of the problem now, your Oleander plant should be fine and leaves will begin to grow correctly.

I hope this helps, and let us know how you make out. Thanks again Spencer for asking the question, and feel free to ask anytime. Have a great day!
Kimberly
