Want to build a berm?

I designed and planted flowers in my flower bed. After watching it flood I need to raise it up. Do I have to dig all my flowers up to make a berm? If I have to dig it up when would be the best season to do this I live in zone 6b.

Building A Berm And Best Time To Transplant Flowers
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your flowers and building a berm.

You live in zone 6b. Once the snow melts and ground temperature warms up some, go ahead and prepare your berm. I am not sure how large an area you have. It sounds like the flowers are in a low lying area right now. It would be fine to transplant your flowers this spring.

There are a couple of options you have depending on your space. A berm usually runs horizonally or vertically. You can also consider a raised bed, which can be a defined shape and space. Your main goal is to bring in good top soil and add such organic mushroom compost to the soil.

Once you have the berm or defined bed prepared, and flowers transplanted, add some mulch, pine straw, or even decorative stone to hold moisture in for the upcoming warmer season.

Springtime is fine to prepare and transplant, but make sure the ground isn't saturated when doing this project. Depending on exactly your location, April or May would work.

I hope this helps you and wish you the best of luck with your berm and transplanting. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask right here. Have a great day.
Kimberly
