My weeping Cherry's leaves are curling and turning brown? What can I do to save the tree?

Weeping Cherry Tree Leaves
by: Kimberly

Hi Joe, Kimberly here from landscape solutions for you. Thank you for asking the question on your Weeping Cherry tree. How long have you had the tree? If it is fairly new, it could be in shock. If it is an established tree, the tree could have too much water or not enough. Also the possiblity of a fungus or disease. Do you have any other plant specimens near the tree, and what is their condition?

What you can do is to scratch the surface of a branch and check to see if it is green or brown. If it is green, it is still alive. If it is brown, the tree is in shock and there is a problem. You can loosen the soil around the tree and put some organic mushroom compost into the soil. This is a great organic fertilizer that will last up to one year.

Another option is if you live close to a nursery or garden center. Take a small branch with the brown leaves and bring it to them. They may be able to identify the problem.

Make sure you have the right light requirement as well as a good watering schedule, depending on your rain you have gotten over the last few months.

One other option is to have your soil tested for lack of nutrients. I hope these few suggestions will get you on the right path so your Weeping Cherry can be saved. The best of luck to you and let us know how you made out. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Feel free to ask anytime. Hope you have had a great day.
Kimberly
