Hi George, Kimberly here from landscape-solutions-for-you. Thank you for asking the question on your Loropetalum.
Now is a great time to prune your Loropetalum. Loropetalums will grow at a pretty fast rate with the proper rainfall or watering. I recommend to prune in the fall and a light pruning after the first blooming period in the spring. Always cut at an angle, and never trim straight across. The Loropetalum is a beautiful shrub and when you prune, start from the top and work your way down. I also recommend to keep the Loropetalum in its natural shape. I have a couple of pages here on this site you might be interested in, if you haven't read them. One is:
This page on the Loropetalum is in the gallery of plants section. The page talks about the proper way to prune your Loropetalum as well as a few pictures.
I hope this will give you some insight on when and how to prune your Loropetalum. Thanks again for asking the question here at landscape solutions for you. Good luck with your pruning and feel free anytime to stop by and ask a question. Have a great day.
Kimberly
